ACADIAN CUISINE PAST AND PRESENT

The Summerside Pumpkin Festival and the Acadian Museum of PEI invite you to a talk by historian Georges Arsenault on Sunday, October 27 at 2 p.m. at the Acadian Museum of PEI in Miscouche.

Given in French, the talk entitled “La cuisine acadienne d'hier et d'aujourd'hui” will take you on a journey back in time through Acadian cuisine.

What food was eaten on the Island by the Acadians during the French regime?

When were potatoes first eaten by the Acadians?

Why is potte-en-potte (a kind of stew) called potte-en-potte?

What is the origin of the “galettes blanches” (bread rolls)?

Why does molasses figure so prominently in the Acadian diet?

These are just some of the questions that the Island historian will try to answer.

Free admission.
